The Stirrings of Evil

The Chronicles, Part 1
Days 0-4
Day 0
I have been ordered by the Decider of Many to chronicle the events surrounding a group of people who will meet in the Shrine of Pelor in some mortal town called Fellwood. Oh, the indignity of it all! Me, a piece of the divine spark reduced to such a role!

~ Amataya, herald of the Decider of Many

Day 1
So there I was floating invisibly in the air above the Shrine, when in walks the most boring looking collection of misfits I have ever seen! I supposed I had better describe them, hadn't I? The first to enter was a shabbily dressed human, wearing black robes and looking like he had just gotten out of bed! Then in walked a red scaled dragonborn, strutting like he owned the place, followed in by one of those underground people, what are they called.....Dwarves! Yes, one of those walked in, with a bright hammer and anvil of Moradin on his shield. Then some dog came in, I bet it's not house trained! Then was that silver haired eladrin, looking at what she could take that wasn't nailed down, and then deciding if the nails were worth anything!
So, to get back to the events (sigh), out comes Alina, the High whassit of Pelor, to offer the group something called "crowns" to look into something happing in some other mortal village called Westbush. How lazy is that! Though the promise of 250 "crowns" seemed to make the eladrins light up, and the others got that funny look that people get when offered melted rocks for services.
Oh, and I should mention that Alina said they needed to bring back proof before payment of whatever dark things that her seers had dreamed up. I mean, skulls and darkness, I really ought to have a word to the Decider of Many about that, how hackneyed.
Moving on, the sorry bunch took the job, and wandered their merry way out of Fellwood, heading west towards that little village, Westbush.

~ Amataya, herald of the Decider of Many

Day 2
Well they walked, then walked some more, ate some food (looked horrible to me, but what do I care, I don't eat), then walked some more until the sun went down, then they had a sleep. How boring

~ Amataya, herald of the Decider of Many

Day 3
Well, today was a bit more exiciting! Well, the evening was anyway, the bit before was the same walking, and more walking, then some of that strange biscuit and meat, then some more walking. But then, there were this little lizard things hiding on the road. Five of them looked pretty puny, but then there were two more with big shields (well, big on them, they were only 3ft tall) and swords, and then there was one with a sling. Well, my group (ughh, I need a better name than that), ran forward to do battle with them. It was great, there was magic stuff going everywhere, and that shifty eladrin stabbed a couple of them in the back! Not very nice mind, but it worked.
Fairly quickly my group (again that word!) killed them all, not getting too bruised in the process, due to some faith healing thingy by the dwarf. The party (that's a better word) did what all mortals seem driven to do, they took all the dead lizard things stuff! I know they don't need it, but that's pretty larcenous. Anyway, the party moved onto the village of Westbush, to get drunk I think, as they went into the town's tavern.
They then ate some food, this stuff looked better than that hard dried stuff they ate on the road, and they looked around the bar. The dragonborn and the dwarf went and had a chat to some well dressed bloke (Lord Esdrak) and a robed gentleman (Seer Valdath) about cult activity in the area. Lord Esdrak seemed to get quite agitated by this, and didn't seem happy about the way the dragonborn was talking to him, but he seemed to like the dwarf. Seer Valdath tried to calm down Lord Esdrak, and when he was doing so, the dwarf (must learn names...stupid mortals and their labels) noticed an elf trying hard to hear the conversation.
Well, the dwarf and the dragonborn stomped over (why do dwarves have to stomp?) to this elf, and after getting not very far, signalled over the eladrin. The elf and the eladrin (I sure there's a joke here somewhere) leaned closer to each other and had a whispered conversation. Apparently, the elf reckons that the cult is working in this town, and their base is somewhere behind a waterfall to the south east. So, my party split up, and went to different places to sleep.

~ Amataya, herald of the Decider of Many

Day 4, til lunch
So, my party woke up at dawn, grouped themselves together, and walked down the road to towards the waterfall.
However I saw them, but they didn't, more of those little lizard people, hiding in the bushes. So my party was ambushed! Travesty! But they seemed to be ok after the original surprise wore off, and they proceed to... well battle isn't a word I would use, I would call it practice, as none of my group could hit anything for a while!
After a minute, they sorted themselves out, with the dwarf, (Tordek?), crying out to Moradin and mightly smiting at one of the lizards with the sneaky eladrin (Aralethiel? or is it Stabbyhammer?), trying to stab it in the back. And then there was the sorcerer guy (Kinsen?), throwing fire and stuff everywhere, it looked good and flashy, but didn't seem to be doing much, then he got it right and blew one of the lizard things with the shields away.
Oh, I forgot, there were two new kinds of lizard things, one that had a spear, and the other was wearing a nifty bone mask that looked like a dragon. I didn't think much about the spear lizard, but the one with the mask was shooting green gobs of stuff at everybody, including the elf-dog (Morrowind?), who was shooting stuff back at the masked lizard.
Then when the dragonborn (Samash?) got close, it breathed acid all over Samash. Then Samash retaliated and breathed fire all over him! I didn't know they could do that! Then it all seemed to go right, the little lizard things quickly got dead. They then stole all the dead things stuff (poor, poor dead lizards), before deciding what to do next.

The Chronicles, Part 2
Day 4
Day 4, midday to evening
Well, the whole lazy lot of them had a sleep, (at midday no less!), then got up, ate some hard biscuity stuff, then walked off towards the waterfall. I thought it was a pretty waterfall, and the bit in front of it was nice as well, apart from more of those little yapping kobolds. My lot nearly got the drop on the ones outside, (I'll talk about the ones inside later), and once again they did battle. This went better than the last one, with most of my party (thats right mine!), doing better than last time they had a fight, except wassface, Morrowind got stuck to a tree, then I suppose the best way to describe it is farted on. What I thought was cool was that there was an old druid circle of standing stones near the waterfall, that still worked, that helped my party to hit the kobolds.
Well, after they killed all the kobolds, they took their stuff, with that dragonborn, Samash, looking like a porcupine with all those javelins strapped to him. Anyway, I digest, I mean digress, as the group knew there must be more of them about, so they sent Aralethiel, Morrowind and Samash to scout. Aralethiel and Morrowind did the stealth thing well, Samash not so much (I reckon it's the javelins), and while Aralethiel snuck close to see more of the kobolds without being detected, Samash tipped of the ones near him, who came to have a look.
This time, my lot got the drop on the enemy, and they killed a few of the kobolds quite quickly, although Aralethiel ran away screaming for some reason towards her companions not too long into the fight. I should have been paying attention, but I was enjoying watching kobolds burn, but apparently a thing called "Irontooth" had woken up, and sounded grumpy. I mean come on, I have yet to see a mortal who isn't grumpy after being woken up. Just the other day.... All right, Decider, I'll get back to the point...Hrumph. Anyway, my lot dropped most of the first wave of kobolds, and when the second lot came out, it was two of those dudes with the scaly shields and one of those priest guys. The shieldy guys knocked Morrowind out of his tree for a few seconds, then gave it up as a bad idea, and went to beat up Aralethiel and Kinsen. They did this whole shuffle dancing smashing thing for a while. Oh, and the priest kept shooting fire at Morrowind in his tree, but kept narrowly missing. However, the cool fight was between Samash, Tordek and Irontooth. They just kept hitting each other, and hitting each other. I reckon Tordek had the coolest attack, I mean a glowing radiant axe, right? Samash did cool as well, hitting Irontooth and talking inspirationally to everyone, they slowing killed Irontooth. It took the rest of the party helping to do it, after they had killed the shieldy guys and the priest, but they eventually did it, after a glitch in reality was discovered by the Decider of Many, which he then fixed.
My party, now exhausted, stole even more stuff, and they found a sweet piece of armor and some cash and a note, saying that some guy named Kaleral is responsible for the cult, there is a spy in Westbush, and he has almost opened a "rift" (whatever that is) for Orcus (not a nice person...demon, by the way). I feel sorry for Irontooth, so I think I will put some stuff about him into a separate book, I mean something that tough should be remembered.

The Chronicles III
Day 4, evening
So, the party went back to Westbush to have a sleep and to get more of that horrible meat and bread stuff. When they got there, the villagers were all shifty, and Stabby wanted to know why. After the sarcastic barkeep told Stabby to shove off, she went and talked to Old Eli, who told Stabby about a dream that he has been having over the last couple of days about darkness and death (love the recurring theme here Decider!). Stabby then went and chatted to Valdath, who told them he would look into the legend of an old keep near the village. Deciding that the only person in town that wanted to help was important (imagine that!), the party followed him home (in a good way). After throwing out some some old bowls (Valdath's, though why they all had little yellow ducks on them...) as an alarm system. Morrowind then went and hung from a tree to sleep, and Samash slept outdoors on the street (must be aiming at a hobo class) [Behave Amataya!].

~ Amataya, herald of the Decider of Many

Day 5
In the morning, between them the party bought all of the available rations from a lovely halfling called Bairwin. After that, Morrowind, bought a book from Valdath, something about being kind. He paid a lot for it, so it must be a fascinating read. Anyway, Valdath told them a story about some guy called Hadgar. It was a good story, about the first King of Jegras. The best bit though is when he told the group that a portal to something they call the Shadowfell (us divine beings call it something much better, but I can't tell you!), and specifii, specalli, directly to a place that Orcus runs. Now Orcus is a big mean brute who hangs out with dead people. And not the fun dead people, their the ones that like to eat peoples. So after this tale, the party decided to go to the keep, and have a nose around.
At noon, the party got to the ruins of the keep. Wasn't much left, apart from some rubble, but some of it had been cleared from some steps going down (why do these adventurer types like going down?). So, when they got to the bottom, they were attacked but some goblins! Well sort of, the goblins ran away. Now's the best bit, when Tordek gave chase, he fell down a hole onto some rats! Then, whilst the others went charging off after the goblin, the goblins snuck up on them and shot them, well at them anyway. Everybody then played tag, until eventually all the goblins were deadified (love that word). The party then went exploring, not going down some stairs (stupid inconsistant mm.mmm.mmmmph) then finding some goblins playing cards. Now my lot got rude, they stole the goblins bell, and started to stab them. Well, they didn't like that (who does?) so they yelled and yelled and some more goblins showed up. Then there was a big fight, with people jumping onto tables, getting kicked off tables, and fire and ice and multi-coloured lights. This time, the party did really well, normally they flounder (why is a fish involved Decider? [...get back to work..], but this time they went smash, bang, boom, splat. Sorry, the goblins did that, the party went "die", and "by Moradin's Beard" and some other stuff that I don't get but the Decider thinks aren't quite suitable for a chronicle. But they won, and found some loot. Also, the Decider gave them all a extra time thingy, a umm.... action point. Though they have to move forward instead of taking a nap if they want to keep it.

The Chronicles IV
Day 5
Well, they all had a short nap, then went to the big door that they went past earlier. Stabby listened at the door, and heard some voices. She then said "three, two, one" and kicked the door open and ran into the room screaming something (she gets too excited that one). The room they went into was a gruesome torture chamber, and it was hot and smelly. Anyway, things went really well for my lot this time, they killed the little goblins quickly, except for one that ran away, and quickly killed a hobgoblin that tried to hit some of my lot with some pokey thing from a fire pit behind him, it didn't work to well though. Anyway, once they had finished, there was this weird dinging sound, but nothing happened for a bit (I'll get back to that). They went looking around the rest of the chamber and found a little goblin locked into a cage. After scaring all sorts of smelly liquids out of the fellow (Spludge he was called), told them about the excavation room, and that there were shinies in there. Stabby's eyes did that light up thing again, and after Tordek and Samash scared some more stuff out of Spludge, they let him go (I'll wonder if they will regret that?). They then had another nap, because they had all learnt some stuff, or did they learn stuff for taking the nap or [Focus]. Anyway, they went round all the way to the entrance, then round to the excavation room, were they found a secret door, that led them to the fat goblins room. They decided cool, then went back, looked down another set of stairs, I think they did, I lost sight of Stabby for a while [not happy about that Amataya] and she came up some stairs babbling about rats. She then suck into the excavation room, where the party beat up on some more goblins and some cute little reptile guard lizard things. When they won, they found some more crowns, and a holy amulet of Moradin. Ooo, ooo, I forgot, they also found some shiny red magical hide armor as well. Well, it's now mid-afternoon (what with the sleeping) and I wonder what they will do next.

Day 5, mid-afternoon
After they killed all the nasties in the excavation room, they all went down the stairs into a natural cave, where they fought some huge rats. Well I say fought, I mean burned, and when I say all, everyone except Stabby. Once they had killed the rats, Stabby came down and helped them kill a jelly, which annoyed everyone by becoming two jellies (normally people are please when they get jelly), but they eventually killed it. They then went down a corridor, to a room filled with small tunnels. Then these weird insect reptiles came through the walls and started to eat everyone. Except Samash, who fell down a hole. Then he climbed out, and there was much rejoicing. Stabby got poisoned, and Kinsen and Morrowind had fun burning stuff and making it sparkly. But they did win, they are getting better at this adventuring thing. They then explored the chamber some more, and found some more holes. Well Kinsen and Stabby found the holes, the others laughed. After finding some shinies, the party had a quick snooze, as they were all tired.

~ Amataya, herald of the Decider of Many

Day 6
They started up again a little after midnight, and went into the cistern room. There, they fought a blue flavored jelly, that was really tough, until they all used their mightiest adventuring wassits, and, apart from everyone getting stunned and woozy, they handed it's, what do to hand a thingy with no anatomy instead of it's ass? Anyway, they found some more shinies, and a awesome shield shiny. Then, as they were all really tired, they had another rest, then they went exploring again. They found some twisty turny corridors, and they found a scribble on the ground that would make a loud noise if stepped on. Someone made a reference to a Eglath (whatever one of those is), and Stabby jumped over the symbol. When Tordek tried, it was like he forgot how to jump, and he activated the symbol. The symbol let out this horrible noise, then everyone apart from Samash ran away. They didn't get far, as they were attacked by walking corpses. But like most walking corpses, they weren't that tough, and the party quickly destroyed them. They are now catching their breath, deciding what to do next.

The Chronicles VI
Day 6
The whole lot of them had another rest, then did some exploring. They found a crypt. Then they found some sarcophagi, then, once Stabby had traveled a bit down the crypt, skeletons jumped out of the sarcophagi and attacked. Most of the skeletons were really weak, and Morrowind and Kinsen killed (can you kill a undead?) them real easy. Then Tordek started yelling to Moradin, and seriously started to smash into the tough warrior skeletons, and he even vaporised one of them with holy power. After they exited the sarcophagi part of the crypt, they found a pair of altars to the Platinum Dragon, and inside one, they found five little silver and platinum dragon figurines. After Samash flatly decided to preserve the artifacts in the Platinum Dragon's name and put them away, the group moved into the tomb behind the crypt. In there, they found a ornate coffin, and when they couldn't find any shinies or other doors, they tried to leave. When they did, the coffin exploded into dust, and standing there was the skeleton of Sir Esdrak (the original one, not the one in Westbush). The whole group, after a nudge nudge wink wink managed (just about) to talk their way into Sir Esdrak's good grace. He then told them a sob story about how he killed his wife and kids, and did some more moaning, then gave Aecris to Tordek for being a "valiant knight". The party then left, after paying their respects to the Platinum Dragon, and moved through back to the screaming corridor. At the screaming corridor, this time it was Stabby that set of the screaming, though this time it didn't seem as effective, and they moved further down the corridor, when they found a secret closet. Well it looked like a closet, until Stabby fired a crossbow bolt through the back wall! The party then piled through the fake wall, and came face to face with some more zombies. The party had it easy, until more zombies appeared behind them trapped them in the room. Then it was only difficult cause they couldn't move around, but the party managed to deadify the undead. They were then asked a riddle, which Stabby got easily (but she has none of it!), and a suit of scale armor appeared, which Tordek took, but he did give his dwarven mail to Samash. The party then had a short rest and returned to town. Near sunset, they reached Westbush, and found the place sealed and locked up tight. Sir Esdrak (the living one, not the unliving one), told them that the dead of Westbush had risen and were attacking the town. After they were let inside to get supplies, the party went to the graveyard (who goes to a graveyard at night?). At the graveyard, they were surrounded and attacked by some really weak skeletons, and that helpful elf from when they first got to town, who was trying to be really helpful by giving the party arrows. Though trying to give them to the party pointy end first from her bow seemed a bit odd. Oh, and there was a pair of undead dogs, that caused a lot of trouble for Samash, they kept knocking the poor dragonborn to the ground and munching on him. Once the party had killed the elf (not very nice by the way, she was trying to help), the rest of the nasty undead got redead really quickly. The group then found another note, with a password "From the ground, some magic was found" from that Kaleral fellow. I think they all got a ding again, and they destroyed the magic circle that was calling the dead from their graves, before they returned to town for a rest to count their loot

Day 7

After they had rested at the Inn, the party returned to the shattered keep. They quickly descended to the second level, where at the bottom of the stairs, they ran into some hobgoblins, who challenged them, expecting a password. The dwarf gave the password they had found in the note that they found on that horrible Nanaren. It was the wrong one! Bet that elf is laughing her head off at the party from wherever she ended up. The party had a hard fight then, but with some precision stuff from both Kinsen and Morrowind, and plenty of smashy smashy from Tordek and Samash, they won. They were really tired again, so they had another rest. After their rest, they went a exploring, and dropped a portcullis across one of the passages they wanted to go down. They instead went to another little room, with more hobgoblins, one of which signaled a huge group of them to attack. This group included a warcaster, a horrible thing that kept electrocuting Samash, and they had a archer too, who obviously hadn't faced a dwarf before, as he kept shooting his arrows over Tordek's head. After this fight, they went to the back to the portcullis, which they triggered again, and after hearing some insults whispered at them, Kinsen, Tordek and Stabby, rushed the portcullis, and bent the bars away so they could get through. The party then had another huge fight against some hobgoblins, one of which was a huge brute, who beat up Samash a lot, but after Tordek and Stabby had killed the little(r) hobgoblins, they helped to bring down the leader. Afterwards, they searched the chambers, and found a very nice shortsword, which Stabby claimed, and some little bits of loot.

The Chronicles VIII
Day 7

After the huge fight with the hobgoblin leader, the party had a long rest. They then went exploring. They found a junction, and decided to go through the south doors. Stabby, being the scout, went through them first, and when she got a few feet into the room, the doors to the room banged shut, and the giant statue in the middle of the room swung it's huge sword right around and hit Stabby, knocking her to the floor.
She then teleported herself to the base of the statue, where she was safe from the sword. The rest of the party meanwhile, tried to pick the lock on the door. They tried and tried, and after they heard some more pained yelps and swearing from Stabby, as she activated another trap when she jumped over to the dragon shaped statues, which had opened their mouths and breathed out a wall of force that knocked Stabby back into the blade of the big statue, they split up, with Tordek and Kinsen running down another corridor. Morrowind and Samash continued to try to pick the door lock, while Kinsen and Tordek explored the other corridor.
While in the other corridor, the pair found that it was suspiciously clean. Thinking that the floor was illusory, they threw a rock onto it. The floor looked real, so they explored a bit, looking for a hidden door. Silly people, they got jumped by a huge cube of jelly, that oozed it's way into the narrow corridor behind them and tried to eat them. It succeeded twice with Tordek, and once with Kinsen.
Meanwhile, back in the room with the statues, Stabby had managed to climb on the base of the big one again, and had disabled it using some spare crossbow bolts. She then went to the door, keeping away from the dragon statues, and investigated the closed door. She heard sand trickling away, and told the others that the trap was on a timer. At that time, both Morrowind and Samash heard the cries of pain from Kinsen and Tordek. They rushed to help, Stabby found another trap. This one sealed her in a room of energy and began to fill with water. After it had filled, a whirlpool formed throwing Stabby around. Whilst the others dealt with the gelatinous cube, she managed to rope herself to a statue, and disable the trap.
Once the others had killed the gelatinous cube, when they got back to the locked door, they heard the lock release and the door open. Inside, they saw bits of gears strewn about the floor near the giant statue, and a pool of water near the other exit door, with Stabby hanging from her waist several feet from the floor attached to a statue.
After they released her, they all had a long rest, as everyone, (apart from Samash and Morrowind) were extremely beaten up.

Day 8

Well, after their rest, the party headed back to the jelly room, and had a bit more of an explore. They found some sarcophagi, which Stabby, convinced that they held loot, opene done. Inside was a stinking, rotting corpse, that attacked, along with another one that sprang from another of the sarcophagi. Stabby and Tordek managed to kill one, and with a mighty swing, Samash removed the head of the other. Unfortunately, both horrible corpses exploded when they ran out of juice, coating several of the party in rotting, dripping body parts.
They then tried to open a locked door, but with Stabby sitting in the corner sulking about no goodies behind doors, Tordek, with Kinsen's and Samash's help, had to force the door open. Inside, they found a chest, containing the remnants of clothing and items of the original Sir Esdrak's children.

The Chronicles IX
Day 8

The whole lot had a very loooonnnnngg rest, then moved back through the chamber of trappy death and through some big doors into a dark room. In the dark room with their torches lit, the party fought off a horde of undead, including a nasty ghoul that paralyzed poor Tordek. Despite this, they destroyed the horde quickly, and in a little cave, Stabby found herself a nice new magic thingy, a bag of holding with some gold coins inside it. She gave the coins to Tordek to look after, then tied the _bag_ to her belt.
They then went into the next room, which was filled with blood! Standing at the back of the area was a tattooed human holding a dagger and singing praises to that big meanie, Orcus. When he saw the party, he charged forward. Unfortunately, so did Samash, who got surrounded by a pair of berzerking humans, who nearly killed poor Samash. Tordek quickly closed with the priest, and they proceeded to not hit each other. Morrowind and Kinsen quickly accounted for some nasty vampire spawn, and helped Stabby and Samash take down the berzerkers, then Stabby left Samash with Morrowind and Kinsen to help Tordek.
Stabby did better at hitting the priest guy than Tordek, and between them, they quickly killed the priest.
They then saw a little clay something dive down a down pit, calling out to Kaleral. After some taunting from Stabby, the party heard a voice from the depths, calling out "Get down here so I can kill you, or go away so I can finish opening the gate to the Shadowfell" Deciding that a open gate to the Shadowfell is a bad idea, the party slid down some chains into the chamber below, with Kinsen slipping off at one point, hurting himself. Now, my lot are at the bottom of the pit, in a large chamber, battered, bruised and tired, ready to kill the masty Priest of Orcus, Kaleral.

The Chronicles X
Day 8

So they slid down the chains, into a pool of blood. Standing in a magical glowing circle was the mighty Kaleral, a pair of skeletons and a little floating clay thingy. Nearby, next to a ugly statue of Orcus, was a wight (or was it a weft?). Now the party split up and Tordek and Samash went after the wight, quickly killing it, using Tordek's mighty blessing of Moradin (a axe to the face must be a pretty powerful dwarven blessing!).
They then turned to assist the others, Stabby having done a masterful job of getting stabbed, burned clubbed and bitten by all of the things in the circle, and falling to the ground nearly dead. Samash then healed her, as well as Tordek, and they all dived in to fight the skeletons and the clay thing. They quickly got rid of the skeletons once they got them out of the circle, then Kaleral did something funny to reality, nearly killing everyone, and then a big hand came out of the portal (did I mention the portal) then Stabby tried to run away up the chains and was hit by Kaleral's beam thingy and and (breathe Amataya).
Anyway, at this point, Kinsen went off to look at the altar, after having failed to disrupt the magic circle (he went boom then whoosh then thump!), and Morrowind changed into a primal beast thingy and tried to help the others fight Kaleral. They had Kaleral surrounded, and still couldn't hit him, and things looked bleak.
Then, Kinsen breaked broked destroyed the urn thing with a dragon tooth in it, with turned off the magic circle, and weakened the portal with the arm thingy in it (I mentioned the arm of shadow didn't I? It is important in a minute). At this point, Stabby stopped having a breakdown, and rejoined the fight and nearly killed Kaleral. She didn't, Morrowind hit him with a pointy dagger and Kaleral died. Well maybe, as the thingy in the portal (I said it was important) reached out and grabbed his body and pulled it through to the Shadowfell.
They all breathed a sigh of relieve, then picked up all the loot including a nice magic dagger, then went back to town.
In town, the party were greeted with cheers as they found out that they had beaten Kaleral, and Sir Esdrak gave them some money. Then when they went in the inn, they saw Alina, who gave them some more gold, and congratulated them on a quest well done. She then said she needed to talk to them, once they had rested.
Now thats all from me for a while, I am getting a break, yay.
